Best Motivational Speech ~Secrets to Success, How Bad Do you Want it? {F...
Posted this before, but I honestly think you should watch this!
Success has different meanings to different people. Some define success as making a ton of money and having nice things. Others simply just define success as how happy they are with their lives and what they have been able to accomplish. People everyday strive for success and push themselves to go beyond what theyve already done. but also people take what the media and society calls successful and try to relate it to them. The truth is, is that many people wont reach the level of some of the richest people in the world. But that is only because their idea of success is something that is conjured in the minds of others and not neccesarily their own minds.
First i would define success not by how much money is in your bank account or by how many nice cars you have. but instead by your happiness with your own life. If having lots of money and nice possesions is your idea of hapiness then so be it. But others are just fine with what they have and contuinue to live their lives happily without superficial things. Success is a mindset. many people only want what others have so they can feel successful to other people. but success is deeper than that. Success is satisfaction with where you are in your life. If you are happy doing what you are doing then you are indeed succesful by your own terms. Dont let another person tell you that you are not successful because your standard of living is not the same as theirs. Like i said, If what youre doing right now makes you happy, then you are indeed succesful.
second, success to me is being able to recognize that what you have in your life is sufficient. People everyday ignore their blessings because they think that because they dont have money, or a big house, or a fancy car, they are not succesful. But people truely forget the blessings they have been givin in their lives. A loving family, the intellegence to think for yourself, or even a job. You must be able to redifine what success is to your own person instead of what someone else thinks. When you can create your own idea of what success is to you, then you will be successful.
Certain things in our society or communities will help or could even prevent achieving success. Growing up in a community that doesnt have many opportunities, success is something only dreamed about. But at the same time, there are dozens of examples of people who are able to overcome their adversities and create something for themselves. I do not believe in any one thing that makes success impossible for anybody. Actually thats not true. The only thing that i beleive will prevent someone from being successful is the person themselves. You must visualize yourself as successful. you have to want it. When you want to be successful then you will be successful. Going back to the video i posted earlier in my blog, Eric Thomas states,
"when you want to be successful as bad as you want to breath, then you will be successful"
Success just wont fall into your lap. True, some people will be born into a situation where success is realized almost immediatly. But someone at some point had to work hard for that status. And thats what it all comes down to. WORK HARD and you will be successful. but working hard is a topic that some people have trouble with. that is because it calls on us to sacrafice certain things in our lives for our future.

High School Student, Jeff Bliss gives a lesson to his teacher at Duncanv...
In class i watched this video in which a young student stands up for himself and the rest of the class when the teacher is accused of being lazy. This video is awesome. A very motivational speech is given by the young man. This is very relative to what we have been discussing in class about passion, and actually what my previous post of Eric Thomas's speech is about. This young man has the courage and will to stand up for what he beleives is right. And he is right!
Teachers these days do not give the students anything to get excited about. they come to class expecting an enthusiastic class that wants to learn. But in reality these students arent there to learn, theyre just there for the credit. But in fact, i beleive that they do want to learn, they just havent been excited about it yet. students need teachers that are willing to bring something new to the class and engage the students. Teaching like this rarely happens and it is sad. But what is even more sad is the fact that the students dont do what Jeff Bliss does in this video and stand up for it. Is it that they dont have the courage, dont see anything wrong, or just dont care?

HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT
One of the best motivational speeches of all time in my opinion. Every time i watch it i just feel like i want to get up and do something. I want to be part of something bigger. I want to create for myself. This video has inspired to me start my own business. And I still find myself referring back to it like a dictionary. So watch it and learn something from it...
This relates to our class discussion of passion and privilege. Here is a man that had no privilege. Black, poor, no education. He did not come from a family of means, if you will. However, he found his passion. He overcame the challenges that so many of Americas youth face daily. It did not matter how many times he had to fail, he only had to succeed once. And now he is teaching young people how to do the same thing.
we all should take a page from Eric Thomas's book. What he is saying in this video is nothing impossible. in fact it is very simple. If you work hard you can accomplish anything you want. key words are WORK HARD. If you want something you've got to want it. Like he says in the video, most people dont really want success. they would rather sleep or go party and hang out with friends than be successful. Bottom line is if you want something reach out and grab it. Dont let anyone tell you that you cannot do something, FIGHT for it.

Into the wild is the next book in our english 1a class. I have not finished the book however i can tell where our class is going with this next book...
We have discussed privilege extensively. However with this book, Chris comes from a very privileged family. However, having grown up in that sort of environment, he wants to escape and be on his own. he donates his college fund to charity and burns the rest of his cash, along with cutting up all his identification cards and his credit cards.
Chris's family is very privileged. his father a scientist for nasa and his mother a very driven individual. both his parents started their own consulting business and now have everything they could have ever wanted. Chris upon graduation, was offered a new car. so why would any one want to leave a situation like this? Chris feels that his familys privilege is just the surface. he longs for the deeper meaning of life and adventures on his own. He was a person of higher class, but now he has no money, no home and has made himself equal to some of the earths poorest people.

school is important. but you ask students and they will say that they hate it most of the time. But for me i feel that the only reason im still in school is because i recognize its not just right now...school is not just this moment. its the rest of your life. If you think of your life as a twelve inch ruler, only about one inch of it will be your education.
work hard now and you will save yourself from having to work for the rest of your life
But there are some shortcomings to this. A four year university or even a junior college could be a challenge to get into. Then staying at that institution is a challenge on its own. Many students face difficulties that will make or break them in school. Some rise to the challenge and overcome and others let the challenges overwhelm them.
One of the biggest challenges that students face in school is money. Often, universities charge outrageous tuition fees for their students. you can double that if you expect to live on campus. Not to mention the cost of books and supplies. By the time youre done with school you could have had a mansion with a mercedes. So how can students cope with not having enough money for their education?
If you feel that you are one of those students. you should look into your options as far as community colleges go. They will be much cheaper and still get you the basis for your eductaion (general education courses). In your time at a community college, get the best grades you possibly can. this will help you to not only get into the universities of your choice, but will also help you to obtain scholarships. Each year, millions of dollars are practically given away to students. Most times students do not even know they exist. So do some research, a quick google search turned up a variety of opportunities for "free money"
Scholarship Opportunities
Another big challenge to students to stay in school is a motivation for higher education. Some students get discouraged with school, because its what they have been doing for practically their whole lives. They think "when will this end?"Simply put, school is what you make it, and you will get out what you put in. Sure you attend your classes and do your homework, but if you arent applying it to anything in your life, you will surely forget it.
So how can students cope with a lack of motivation?
Thats simple actually. Dont just attend school because you think it will get you a better job, or some other superficial reason. attend school because it will be another step closer to doing what is really going to make you happy. For instance, in my other posts, i talked about how i bounced around from school to school only to finally come up on something i wanted to do. I saw it when i was SJSU. students had no idea what they wanted to do in their lives, they just knew college would help them. But in all honesty, education is not something you get in just a classroom. education is your life experiences, your failures, your successes.

Recently in my English 1A class, I was given an assignment to write about privilege. I wont go into what that is. we'll save that for a longer discussion.
But the underlying statement is that privilege exists every day. Now passion and privilege have a connection. It is very short and simple. If you have privilege you realize that you have certain opportunities available to you. You realize that you can make a difference and do something on your own. If you dont have that privilege, those same opportunities are probably not available. or not that they arent available but that they just arent realized.
But the truth is that regardless of your privilege, passion is in every one. You just have to fight to get what you want. If you want it go get it...period

This movie is very motivating to any young student trying to find their way.
I don’t believe that they were
saying anything that I did not already know. At one point I was lost like most
of these students.
As a young boy I was told that I
needed college in order to succed. I thought I wanted to join the air force and
become a pilot. So I tried to get into the air force academy. but I realize
that wasn’t my dream. My dream was bigger than that. However I still felt that
I needed college.
All throughout elementary school I
“suffered from ADHD. Or that what my teachers called it. I was too young to
understand so I just wnet along with it. They said that without medication I
would not make it to high school. So my parents and I continued my medication
right up untl I graduated from 8th grade. Even still in high school
I was told I would not make it to
college without medications. Well I did, I ended up getting into SJSU.
SJSU was probably the biggest
mistake of my life. I went there not knowing what I wanted to do. Instead I
just picked a major that I thought would make me happy. But after just one
semester I ended up dropping out of there and just trying to find out what it
is that I really wanted
I wanted to be myself. I wanted to
explore my opportunities. So I got involved with nightclubs. However, the push was
still present that college was necessary to my overall success.
I attended city college, and again
I chose a major in which I did not have any interest in. I just thought it
would make me some decent money. Long story short, I left there because I felt
I wasn’t like the rest of the students.
Yeah no students wants to be in
school, but I saw the benefit of it. Its not about how much you learn in your
classes, its what you learn during your time outside of those classes. How are
you able to take what you learned and apply it to your daily llife. I decided
that city college was not for me.
Having bounced around three
different colleges I fond my self at Chabot college. I believe that this is
where I belonged and I should have done this from the start. I was always
passionate about cars but I never thought about actually persuing that as a
carreer.
My dad always told me…do what you
love and youll never work a day in your life. So I decided after one semester
at Chabot to stop my academic general ed courses and try something that I loved
to do. And it took off from there. I joined a program on school and it has been
the greatest thing to ever happen to me.
I took my passion for cars and was
actually able to apply it to my life. Now I have a job in the automotive
industry and I could not be happier. I don’t care if I wont get rich from it.
But I will be rich in knowledge.
It didn’t stop there. I do not
believe in going out and finding a job but in actually creating them. I know
that you cannot rely on a college degree these days. Its not about what yoou
learned in calss but how much you learned outside of that. So I take every
opportunity to learn. I started my own business this year. It is very involed
in the auto industry. You cannot rely on someone to help you. You must help
yourself.
In this movie, many of the students
are afraid. Like me they were told they must do something that will make them
money so they can survive. But I say don’t follow money. Follow happienes.. if
you achieve happiness you will have that regardless of money. But following
money, you may have all the money in the world but you may not have happiness.
Im 21 and ive started two
businesses. The first when I was 18 was a nightclub promotion company. We
through one event and it got shutdown before it even started. I failed, yes but
I never let that discourage me. I was hungrier than before. I don’t believe in
just going to school and sitting in class to get a grade. What is a grade anyway.
Its just paper. And when you try and go get a job that’s all youll have.
Honestly you have to try and learn as much as you can without the class. Educate
yourself. You want something go get it. You don’t need a degree to start a business.
Even if that’s not what youre into. You can get involved in something that
means something to you.
You bottom line is…if you want
something you gotta go get it. And in some fields school is important. But you
have to think of the bigger picture. What are you doing outside of school to help
you. And you may realize that school is just an aid. Yeah your classes may
suck, but what activities are you doing that are going to benefit you. Because all youll get from being in
class is the same as every one else. A grade and a piece of paper. But most
students will graduate and that’s all they’ll be. A piece of paper. How are you
making yourself different from the rest. What are you doing now that will
prepare you fro the rest of your life.
Read some books, start a business,
do what you love. Be happy.
Chase happiness, youll have that
regardless of money. But chasing money will not necessarily mean you will be
happy.
